Molecular evolutionary phylogenetic trees based on minimum description length principle

چکیده
Ever since the discovery of a molecular clock, many methods have been developed to reconstruct the molecular evolutionary phylogenetic trees. In this paper, we deal with this problem from the viewpoint of an inductive inference and apply Rissanen’s minimum description length principle to extract the minimum complexsty phylogenetic tree. OUT method describes the complexity of molecular phylogenetic tree by three terms which are related to the tree topology, the sum of branch len, gths and the difference between the model and th.e data measured by logarithmic likelihood. Five mitochondrial DNA sequences from human, common chimpanzee, pygmy chimpanzee, gorilla and orangutan are used for investigating the validity of this method. It is suggested that th,is method is superior to the traditional meth,od in that it still show the good accuracy even near the root of phytogenetic trees.

متن کاملMDL Method: an Inductive Inference Method for Reconstructing Phylogenetic Trees
Though various computational methods have been proposed to reconstruct the phylogenetic tree from the nucleotide sequence di erences so far, there are no decisive reconstruction methods yet so that a new method is expected. The expected method is supposed to be based on the probabilistic model of the base substitution process along the tree, and besides, to incorporate some evaluation of the tr...
متن کاملAn information-theoretic method for the treatment of plural ancestry in phylogenetics.
In the presence of recombination and gene conversion, a given genomic segment may inherit information from 2 distinct immediate ancestors. The importance of this type of molecular inheritance has become increasingly clear over the years, and the potential for erroneous inference when it is not accounted for in the statistical model is well documented. Yet, the inclusion of plural ancestry (PA) ...
متن کاملInferring Phylogenetic Graphs for Natural Languages using MML
Languages, like everything around us, evolve and change over a period of time. The aim of this report is to be able to model this evolution that occurs between natural languages. We introduce the idea of inferring phylogenetic (or evolutionary) models for natural languages using the MinimumMessage Length (MML) principle. Phylogenetic models show the evolutionary interrelationship among various ...
